Rurally positioned in an exquisite elevated position with wonderful far reaching views over the Weald, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Buckhurst Lane is a quite country lane situated on the outskirts of the sought-after Village of Wadhurst. Wadhurst is quintessentially everything one would want in a picturesque East Sussex Village. Dominated by the beautiful Norman Church. Tile-hung Cottages, a vibrant and friendly selection of really excellent local Shops including an excellent Butchers, Greengrocers, Post Office, Florist, Country Inns, Restaurants and Banking facilities line the main street which stretches along a ridge in the heart of the High Weald, more than 450' above sea-level. Brick, made from local clay, is the principal building material for most properties in the area. However, it was another material - Iron - that created Wadhurst's prosperity. Snape Wood, to the south-west, was one of the last places in the southeast, where iron ore was mined. Work went on intermittently as late as the mid-19th Century.
Thirty iron tomb slabs are built into the floor of the Church of St Peter and St Paul: a unique collection that makes the floor ring as people walk over it. The slabs, which are inlaid with ornate heraldry and bear the names of local ironmasters, dates from 1617 to 1772, roughly spanning the heyday of the local iron industry. The Church also contains a 17' wrought-iron screen, built in 1957, depicting images of Sussex rural life. A local Ironmaster built the beautiful Queen Anne Vicarage in The High Street. Next door is the tile-hung Hill House, and close to the Churchyard stands Churchgate House, timber-framed and tile hung with an over hanging upper roof.
This pretty and much favoured Village has a good local Primary School and some of the popular social activities include Amateur Dramatics and events in the Village Hall. There are several Golf Clubs within easy driving distance including Lamberhurst, Dale Hill Ticehurst, Chart Hills, Sissinghurst, Neville and Tunbridge Wells etc. Walking and Riding opportunities are provided by the local countryside and in particular at Bewl Water Reservoir, which also offers excellent Sailing, Rowing and Fishing facilities.
Frequent bus services from Hawkhurst to Tunbridge Wells pass through Wadhurst and the Main Line Station just outside the Village provides trains to London (59 mins), Gatwick, Heathrow, Ashford International and the Coast. The Spa Town of Royal Tunbridge Wells provides a more extensive shopping range, plus Restaurants, Banking, Theatres and a variety of recreational facilities. The A21 provides a convenient link to the M25 Motorway Network going north and the Coast travelling south. Driving time to Central London approx. 90 mins.
